Process

The conservation and repair of historical timepieces is a meticulous, thoughtful process that requires specialized skills and a deep respect for the original craftsmanship. Our approach combines time-honored techniques with modern expertise, ensuring the utmost respect for the historical integrity of each piece:

  1. Assessment and Documentation: Each project begins with an in-depth assessment of its condition. This initial stage includes detailed analysis, identifying any damage, wear, or missing components.

  2. Careful Disassembly and Cleaning: We disassemble each piece by hand, carefully cleaning each component to remove dust, oil, and other residues. This step is crucial for both the preservation and functionality of the piece, as accumulated debris can compromise the movement’s accuracy and longevity.

  3. Repair and Restoration: With a focus on historical accuracy, we repair damaged parts, often recreating missing or broken components to match the original materials and craftsmanship. For extremely delicate pieces, we use specialized tools and techniques to preserve the patina and character that time has bestowed upon them.

  4. Reassembly and Calibration: After each component is restored, we carefully reassemble the movement, calibrating it to ensure it keeps accurate time. This stage requires an intimate knowledge of horological mechanics, as even the slightest misalignment can affect the functionality and longevity of the piece.

  5. Final Preservation Treatment: To safeguard each restored item, we apply conservation-grade treatments to help protect against environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature changes, which can damage delicate components over time.
